Product Introduction

Forged titanium valve balls and ball valve blanks in Grade 12, supplied to ASTM B381

Grade 12 Titanium Ball Valve Forgings for Corrosion-Service Valve Parts

Grade 12 titanium ball valve forgings are used when valve components need titanium corrosion resistance with the Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni alloy chemistry of UNS R53400. Buyers may specify Grade 12 for chemical processing, chloride-containing media, seawater-related service and industrial systems where valve wetted parts require a titanium alloy rather than general stainless steel.

Beiyu quotes forged valve parts from drawings, size lists and machining requirements. Typical enquiries include valve bodies, ball blanks, stems, bonnet components, flanges, sleeves and other drawing-based parts that need controlled material grade, machining allowance and inspection records.

Grade and Standards

Material Grade 12 titanium, UNS R53400, Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni
Common forging standard ASTM B381 when specified by the order or drawing
Related corrosion grades Grade 2, Grade 7 and Grade 12 titanium forgings, selected by service medium and engineering specification
Supply scope Rough forged blank, pre-machined blank or machined component by RFQ
Documentation Mill test certificate, heat traceability and EN 10204 3.1 documentation when required by the purchase order

Size, Tolerance and Surface

Ball valve forgings should be quoted by drawing, not by grade name only. Include outside diameter, inside diameter, wall thickness, bore size, flange face details, stem connection, machining allowance, tolerance, quantity and whether the part is a valve body, ball, stem, seat carrier or custom valve component.

  • Forging route: rough forging, pre-machined blank or finished machined component.
  • Machining allowance: state finished dimensions and allowance for turning, boring, drilling or slotting.
  • Surface: forged, machined, pickled or cleaned condition according to the drawing.
  • Inspection points: dimensional check, heat traceability, PMI, ultrasonic testing or other project requirements when stated before quotation.

Common Applications

  • Chemical process ball valves and corrosion-resistant valve assemblies.
  • Seawater, brine, chlorination and desalination-related equipment.
  • Pump, valve and piping systems using titanium wetted parts.
  • Machined valve balls, stems, sleeves and body components.
  • Drawing-based forged blanks for replacement or OEM valve parts.

Inspection and Documentation

Orders can be supplied with mill test certificates showing chemical composition, mechanical properties and heat number traceability. Depending on the drawing and service requirement, inspection may include dimensional checks, visual inspection, PMI, ultrasonic testing, hardness testing, machined surface inspection and EN 10204 3.1 documentation. Pressure testing normally applies to finished valve assemblies, not rough forgings, unless specified by the buyer.

Packaging and Export

Forged titanium valve components should be packed to protect sealing faces, bore surfaces, threads, reference surfaces and heat markings. Heavy forgings may require wooden cases, pallet packing, lifting protection and separate marking by heat number. Machined blanks should be wrapped individually to reduce surface damage during transport.

RFQ Information Needed

  • Grade 12 / UNS R53400 and ASTM B381 or the project standard.
  • Valve component drawing, dimensions, machining allowance and finished scope.
  • Valve size, pressure class, bore diameter and connected flange standard if relevant.
  • Quantity, tolerance, surface condition, marking and packing requirement.
  • MTC, EN 10204 3.1, PMI, UT or other inspection requirement.

Specification detail with sources

The grade on this page is defined by composition inside the forging standard itself. ASTM B381 lists Grade F-12 as a titanium alloy with 0.3 percent molybdenum and 0.8 percent nickel under UNS R53400, and covers annealed forgings across its grade list (ASTM B381, scope). It also states that material conforming to ASTM B348 shall be used when producing forgings to that specification (ASTM B381, materials and manufacture), and defines a forging as any product of work on metal formed to a desired shape by impact or pressure in hammers, forging machines, upsetters, presses or related forming equipment (ASTM B381, terminology).

Shape family the blank is forged from Range Beiyu reviews a valve part against
Block, for valve bodies and body blanks 50 mm to 600 mm, with the governing dimension taken from the drawing
Forged round bar, for stems and ball blanks 50 mm to 500 mm diameter, length to 3000 mm
Ring, for seat carriers and sleeves Outside diameter 50 mm to 2000 mm, inside diameter 10 mm to 900 mm, height 20 mm to 400 mm
Disc, for covers and blind components Outside diameter 50 mm to 2000 mm, thickness 20 mm to 500 mm

The envelope is a production capability reviewed against, not a stock statement, and not every combination of grade, shape, size and inspection exists across the whole range. The ordered combination is confirmed at quotation.

What is reported on the certificate is routed through the standard’s referenced methods: ASTM E8 for tension testing, ASTM E1409 for oxygen and nitrogen by inert gas fusion, ASTM E1447 for hydrogen and ASTM E1941 for carbon by combustion (ASTM B381, referenced documents). Naming a method settles how a reported value was produced. It does not add an ultrasonic requirement, which ASTM B381 does not include automatically and which therefore has to be written onto the order with its method, coverage, acceptance standard and class. For a valve part machined after forging, state the stage at which any examination applies, since a scan before machining and a scan after machining do not cover the same material.

FAQ

Why use Grade 12 titanium for ball valve forgings?

Grade 12 is selected for chemical and chloride service where its Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni alloy chemistry is suitable for the specified environment. The final grade should follow the process medium, temperature, drawing and engineering specification.

Can forged valve blanks be supplied with machining allowance?

Yes. Provide the finished drawing, tolerance and machining allowance so the forging route and blank size can be quoted correctly.

Is a forged blank the same as a finished valve ball?

No. A forged blank is material prepared for later machining. A finished ball or valve component needs additional machining details, surface requirement and inspection scope in the RFQ.

What documents are usually requested?

Common documents include MTC, heat traceability, chemical and mechanical property records, dimensional inspection records and EN 10204 3.1 documentation when specified.

Request a Quote for Grade 12 Titanium Ball Valve Forgings

Send the valve drawing, Grade 12 / UNS R53400 requirement, ASTM B381 or project standard, dimensions, machining allowance, quantity, inspection scope and destination. Beiyu will review whether the RFQ is for a rough forging, pre-machined blank or finished machined component.
