Molybdenum
Molybdenum bar and rod for specified furnace, vacuum, electronic and high-temperature industrial components.
This category is the industrial molybdenum bar and rod route. It covers unalloyed molybdenum or TZM when the exact material designation is specified, including cut or drawing-based blanks. ASTM B387 / B387M applies to molybdenum and molybdenum-alloy bar, rod and wire when cited by the order.
For quotation, send the material designation, diameter or section, length, condition, tolerance, surface, quantity, downstream process, operating atmosphere and required documents. Temperature capability, stock, minimum quantity and lead time are not universal category claims; they are confirmed against the buyer’s specification and current quotation.

The visible supply route in this category is molybdenum bar and rod. It targets “molybdenum bar” and “molybdenum bar supplier” intent without implying that sheet, foil or wire is listed here.
| Material route | Reference | Use this route when | RFQ inputs | Product page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unalloyed molybdenum bar / rod | ASTM B387 / B387M when ordered | The purchase specification calls for an unalloyed molybdenum bar, rod or cut blank | Material designation, diameter or section, length, condition, tolerance, surface and quantity | Molybdenum bar and rod |
| TZM molybdenum-alloy bar / rod | ASTM B387 / B387M grade or buyer specification | The drawing or purchase specification explicitly calls for TZM rather than unalloyed molybdenum | Exact grade, dimensions, condition, machining allowance, inspection and documents | Molybdenum / TZM RFQ page |
Application boundary: Temperature, atmosphere, oxidation exposure and downstream machining must be reviewed by the buyer's engineer. The page routes bar and rod procurement; it does not promise universal temperature performance or stock.
Send material designation, bar or rod dimensions, condition, tolerance, surface, quantity, application and document scope.
Request a molybdenum bar quoteHow ordering works for molybdenum bar and rod
State whether the RFQ is for unalloyed molybdenum or TZM, then provide the exact designation, bar or rod section, dimensions, condition, surface and any cut or machining allowance. ASTM B387 / B387M applies only when cited by the order.
Price and schedule depend on material route, section size, length, tolerance, surface, cutting or machining, quantity, inspection and documents. Minimum quantity, available size and lead time are confirmed in the quotation.
Engineering input: Include operating temperature, atmosphere and downstream process where they affect the buyer's acceptance specification.
Molybdenum RFQ questions
Which Molybdenum grade should be specified?
Select the grade by service medium, strength requirement, forming or machining route and any buyer drawing. Common options in this category include Unalloyed molybdenum, TZM when specified, Bar / rod, Cut or machined blank by drawing.
Which standards apply to Molybdenum RFQs?
The purchase order should state the applicable material or project standard. Typical references for this category include ASTM B387 / B387M, Material designation by RFQ, Dimensions and tolerance, Surface and documents.
What information should be sent for quotation?
Send grade, standard, dimensions, tolerance, quantity, surface condition, application, destination and required documents such as MTC or EN 10204 3.1.

Specification detail with sources
ASTM assigns molybdenum flat products and long products to different documents, B386 for plate and B387 for the bar and rod this category routes, so a blank sawn from plate and a blank cut from bar answer to two different specification numbers even when the chemistry matches. Density is molybdenum’s most quotable figure: at 10.2 grams per cubic centimeter it is barely half of tungsten’s 19.3, the quickest check between the two gray refractory metals when unmarked pieces are in question.
Molybdenum bar is quoted by Beiyu from the drawing and the designation the buyer names, unalloyed or TZM, within the supply ranges set out in the table below. Each enquiry is reviewed against six fields before quotation, grade or designation, standard, dimensions, tolerance, surface condition and inspection scope, and accepted orders ship with chemical composition checked through one of two laboratory routes and MTC with EN 10204 3.1 under heat number traceability by order scope.
Supply envelope for molybdenum
Molybdenum enquiries usually carry the metal and the size and stop there, leaving the grade and the condition open. Both change the delivered part, and both are settled in one line each.
| Form | Range |
|---|---|
| Sheet and plate | 0.1 mm to 40 mm thick, width 10 mm to 800 mm, length 10 mm to 2000 mm |
| Round bar and rod | Ø3.0 mm to 150 mm, length to 3000 mm |
| Wire | Ø0.1 mm to 6.0 mm |
| Pipe | Ø10.0 mm to 80 mm, length to 3000 mm |
The table is quoted against ASTM B386 and ASTM B387 as the governing specifications for the family; which of them applies to a given item is confirmed with the order rather than assumed from the form.
The grades supplied are Mo1, Mo2, MoLa and TZM. Unalloyed molybdenum and the alloyed grades are produced in the same forms and are bought for different temperature service rather than as substitutes, so the grade designation belongs on the order. Worked and stress relieved material and fully recrystallised material also behave differently at the same purity, which makes the condition a separate line again. Beiyu Titanium supplies the ranges in the table. Sections outside them are a separate enquiry.
