An ultrasonic test becomes an acceptance requirement only when the order names the inspection specification, acceptance class, coverage and calibration basis together. Use this selector to find missing fields and produce a complete UT line for a titanium bar enquiry. It does not convert one standard’s class into another.
Order-line check
Why the specification and class travel together
A class letter has meaning only inside the specification that defines it. Do not translate A1, A, AA or another label across standards by name alone. If a drawing states only a class, ask which specification and revision controls before material is released for inspection.
| Specification | Published scope | What the order still has to state |
|---|---|---|
| AMS-STD-2154E | Uniform UT methods for wrought metals and wrought metal products | Applicable class, coverage, calibration basis and reporting scope |
| AMS 2631G | Wrought titanium and titanium alloy bar, billet and plate at 6.4 mm or more in cross-section or diameter | Applicable class and the inspection details required by the drawing or purchase specification |
| GB/T 5193-2020 | Ultrasonic inspection method for wrought titanium and titanium alloy products | Applicable class, product route, coverage and report requirements |
Beiyu’s documented precision ground bar setting
The matching result in the selector is limited to Beiyu’s documented precision centerless ground bar route. It is a capability reference for quotation, not a promise that every grade, diameter and inspection combination is available.
| UT field | Documented setting on that route |
|---|---|
| Method | Water immersion, focused longitudinal wave |
| Coverage | 100 percent of the circumference |
| Calibration | 1.2 mm diameter radial flat-bottom hole set to 80 percent full screen height |
| Probe frequency | 10 MHz |
| Acceptance | Class A1 to AMS-STD-2154 or GB/T 5193, whichever the order names |
The flat-bottom hole is a calibration target, not a guarantee that every discontinuity of that physical size will be detected. Other product routes need their own scan geometry and acceptance review.
What to check on the ultrasonic report
Match the report back to the order line: method and wave mode, coverage, reference reflector and response, probe frequency, acceptance specification and class, inspection stage, result, and traceability to the delivered heat or lot. The words “UT passed” alone do not show what acceptance decision was made.
For the underlying buyer guide, see how to specify a titanium bar ultrasonic acceptance class. If diameter and straightness are still open, use the titanium bar tolerance selector before sending the RFQ.
Specification detail with sources
The ultrasonic setting Beiyu Titanium documents for its precision ground bar route is a water-immersion focused longitudinal-wave examination at 10 MHz, covering 100 per cent of the circumference, calibrated against a 1.2 mm radial flat-bottomed hole at 80 per cent of screen height, reported as class A1 against AMS-STD-2154 or GB/T 5193, whichever the order names.
That setting is one route’s documented practice, not a conversion table between standards. AMS-STD-2154, AMS 2631 and GB/T 5193 each define their own acceptance classes and calibration bases, and a class named under one of them does not carry across to another. An ultrasonic test becomes an acceptance requirement only when the order names the inspection specification, the acceptance class, the coverage and the calibration basis together, which is the line this page builds.
