R, M and Y are delivery-condition codes used on Chinese-route titanium mill paperwork. They are not universal abbreviations for every ASTM, ASME, AMS, ISO or drawing-controlled order. Use this selector to check whether the code, product form and governing document belong to the same specification chain before copying the condition into an RFQ.

What R, M and Y mean on the Chinese bar route
The official Chinese standards platform identifies GB/T 2965 as the current national product standard for titanium and titanium alloy bars. Within that specification chain, R, M and Y identify the delivered metallurgical state. They do not settle surface finish, dimensional tolerance, machining allowance, inspection scope or certificate type.
| Code | Delivery state | Order fields still required |
|---|---|---|
| R | Hot worked | Exact product route, surface, allowance, dimensions, properties and inspection |
| M | Annealed | Governing standard, grade, size, surface, tolerances and any specified heat-treatment detail |
| Y | Cold worked | Delivered-size mechanical acceptance, retained cold work, formability and subsequent processing |
Do not translate an ASTM condition into a one-letter code
ASTM B265 covers annealed titanium strip, sheet and plate, while ASTM B348/B348M is the product specification for titanium bar and billet. Medical material can follow another product-specific chain: ASTM F67 is a separate specification for unalloyed titanium used in surgical implant applications. Use the wording and acceptance table of the specification named on the order. Adding M or Y does not convert one standard into another.
Condition and surface are separate order fields
| Field | What it controls | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery condition | The metallurgical state in which the material is supplied | Hot worked, annealed, cold worked, stress relieved |
| Surface or finish | The surface presented for machining, inspection, forming or use | As-worked, descaled, pickled, peeled, ground, polished |
| Dimensional acceptance | The size, tolerance, straightness, flatness or edge requirement | Nominal size plus a stated tolerance or class |
Put the complete condition line on the order
A usable order line names the standard and revision, grade, product form, dimensions and tolerances, delivery condition, surface or finish, inspection scope and certificate requirement. If R, M or Y appears only on the certificate after the goods arrive, the buyer has no frozen condition against which to accept the shipment.
Use the titanium standards cross-reference to confirm the grade and product-form standard. Then use the MTC checklist generator to reconcile the resulting certificate with the purchase order.
