Product Introduction
Where UNS N02200 nickel rod is specified
Nickel 200 rod is a commercially pure nickel round bar for corrosion-resistant components, electrical parts and chemical-process equipment. It is commonly specified as UNS N02200 when buyers need good thermal and electrical conductivity, resistance to caustic alkalis and stable performance in neutral or reducing environments.
Grade and Applicable Standards
Typical RFQs specify Nickel 200 / UNS N02200 to ASTM B160 or project-specific nickel alloy requirements. When ordering, state whether the bar is for machining, electrical parts, fasteners, shafts, fixtures or chemical equipment so the required diameter tolerance, straightness and surface condition can be reviewed.
| Material | Nickel 200, UNS N02200 commercially pure nickel |
|---|---|
| Common standard | ASTM B160 for nickel rod and bar, or project specification |
| Related grade | Nickel 201 / UNS N02201 when lower carbon content is specified |
| Supply form | Round bar, rod, cut length or machining blank by RFQ |
| Documentation | Mill test certificate, chemical composition and mechanical properties as required by purchase order |
Size, Tolerance and Surface
Nickel 200 rods can be quoted by diameter, length, surface condition, tolerance and quantity. Buyers should define whether the rods will be machined, threaded, welded, bent or used as electrical conductors. For precision-machined parts, include the finished drawing and machining allowance.
- Diameter and length by RFQ or drawing.
- Surface options may include peeled, ground, polished or pickled condition depending on route and size.
- Cut-to-length bars should define end condition and burr requirements.
- Straightness and diameter tolerance should be stated for shaft, electrode and precision-machining use.
Common Applications
- Chemical-process equipment and caustic alkali service components.
- Electrical and electronic parts requiring nickel conductivity.
- Marine and industrial fasteners, pins, shafts and machined parts.
- Heat-transfer or corrosion-service components where Nickel 200 is specified by drawing.
- Nickel alloy fixtures, supports and custom turned parts.
Inspection and Documentation
Inspection scope should follow the purchase order and application risk. Common requirements include dimensional inspection, chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat number traceability and mill test certificate. PMI or additional third-party inspection can be discussed when the project specification requires it.
Packaging and Export Information
Nickel rods should be bundled or separated by diameter and heat number, wrapped to reduce surface damage and packed in wooden cases or pallets for export shipment. Labels should identify material grade, size, quantity and heat number when traceability is required.
RFQ Information Needed
- Nickel 200 / UNS N02200 or the specified nickel grade.
- Applicable standard such as ASTM B160, or the project specification.
- Diameter, length, tolerance, surface condition and quantity.
- Drawing, machining allowance or finished-part requirement if applicable.
- Required MTC, inspection, packing and shipping terms.
What a machining-stock order has to settle
Nickel rod is usually bought as machining stock, which moves the acceptance question away from composition and onto the fields a machinist actually meets. Diameter with its tolerance, straightness over a stated gauge length, surface condition and the delivery condition all decide whether a bar can be loaded and cut to the drawing. None of them are implied by the alloy number, and all of them can be settled in one line each on the order.
The alloy side still has to be written properly. Commercially pure nickel is supplied in more than one carbon level, so the UNS number rather than the common name is what fixes the composition table on the certificate. The condition is a separate field again: annealed and cold worked bar of the same alloy machine differently and are not substitutes for one another. Six lines settle all of it: the alloy with its UNS number, the governing specification, diameter with tolerance, length and straightness, the delivery condition and the surface condition. Beiyu Titanium reviews them before quotation and supplies rod with a mill test certificate carrying heat number traceability.

FAQ
What is Nickel 200 rod used for?
Nickel 200 rod is used for machined corrosion-service parts, electrical components, chemical equipment parts, fasteners, shafts and fixtures where commercially pure nickel is specified.
What should be included in a Nickel 200 rod RFQ?
Include UNS N02200 or Nickel 200 grade, standard, diameter, length, tolerance, quantity, surface condition, document requirements and any drawing or machining notes.
Can Nickel 200 rods be supplied with traceability?
Traceability should be specified at RFQ stage. Buyers commonly request heat number marking and mill test certificate showing chemical composition and mechanical properties.
When should Nickel 201 be considered instead of Nickel 200?
Nickel 201 is often considered when low carbon content is required by the service specification. The buyer should follow the drawing, medium, temperature and engineering requirement.
Specification detail with sources
The Beiyu Titanium supply ranges publish nickel round bar at Ø5.0 mm to 300 mm with length to 6000 mm, and pair Nickel 200 and Nickel 201, UNS N02200 and N02201, with ASTM B160 in the bar row.
The two grades are sometimes ordered interchangeably in bar, and should not be. Nickel 201 is the low carbon version of Nickel 200, specified for extended service at elevated temperature where the carbon carried by Nickel 200 leads to embrittlement. Ordering by the words pure nickel leaves that choice open, so the UNS designation belongs on the order line next to the diameter, and the certificate reports the grade rather than the description.
