Titanium MTC Checklist Generator

A mill test certificate is useful only when it can be reconciled with the purchase order and the material received. Use this checklist to record the document type, ordered identity, traceability, test results and added reports. The result is a review status, not an automatic material acceptance decision.

What the checklist can and cannot decide

The checklist records whether the certificate package is complete enough for acceptance review. It does not compare numerical results for you, choose the controlling standard, or override the purchase order. A status of Checklist complete means the selected review steps were recorded without a discrepancy; it is not an engineering release.

EN 10204 document type and test scope are different decisions

BS EN 10204 classifies inspection documents for metallic products. The document type describes the inspection basis and validation route. The product specification, drawing, purchase order and inspection plan determine which chemistry, mechanical tests and added examinations have to be reported.

Document type Inspection result basis Review implication
2.1 Declaration of compliance without test results Cannot substitute for ordered specific results
2.2 Non-specific inspection results Results are not required to come from the products actually supplied
3.1 Specific inspection results; validation by the manufacturer’s authorised inspection representative independent of manufacturing Check the order, results and traceability together
3.2 Specific inspection results with the additional validation route defined by the standard Must be scheduled and stated before order release

Use one sequence at receiving

Step Compare Reason to hold
1. Order identity Grade, UNS where applicable, product form, governing standard and revision The certificate and PO name different material or specification chains
2. Physical identity Heat, lot or other ordered identifier on certificate, marking or tag and packing record The paperwork cannot be tied to the delivered material
3. Chemistry Every required element, result, unit and ordered limit A required result is absent or outside the controlling limit
4. Mechanical and product tests Required results for the ordered form, size and condition A result is missing, uses the wrong acceptance basis or does not meet the order
5. Added reports UT, PMI, dimensional, third-party or other reports explicitly named on the order A required report is absent or cannot be traced to the same material

Check the method behind the number

A method has to be suitable for the acceptance question. The order and governing product specification decide which results and methods apply.

Method or standard What it can support in this review Boundary
Handheld XRF Screening of metallic alloying elements within the validated method scope Cannot close out titanium interstitial limits
ASTM E1409 Oxygen and nitrogen in titanium by inert gas fusion Use the ordered product specification for the acceptance limits
ASTM E1447 Hydrogen in titanium and titanium alloys by inert gas fusion Use the limit for the ordered material and product form
ASTM E2371 Plasma emission analysis for listed metallic elements in titanium alloys Confirm that the required element is within the selected method scope

Keep the certificate tied to the ordered product standard

ASTM B348/B348M identifies the grade and chemistry framework for titanium bar and billet, but a bar certificate cannot be used as the acceptance basis for sheet, tube, wire or forging merely because the alloy name is the same. Match the form-specific standard and revision before checking values.

For the detailed explanation, use the titanium MTC and EN 10204 3.1 guide. For multi-layer packages, see which certificate layers to order with titanium bar. If the certificate includes an ultrasonic report, run the fields through the UT acceptance class selector.
