Beiyu Titanium supplies square titanium bar from 3 x 3 mm up to 500 x 500 mm, in lengths up to 6000 mm, most commonly in Grade 2 and Grade 5 to ASTM B348, with an EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate by order scope.

What size range does titanium square bar come in?
| Item | Beiyu supply range |
|---|---|
| Section | 3 x 3 mm to 500 x 500 mm |
| Length | Up to 6000 mm, cut to length on order |
| Common grades | Grade 2 (UNS R50400), Grade 5 (UNS R56400) per ASTM B348 |
| Certificate | EN 10204 type 3.1 with heat and pour numbers, by order scope |
Sections are produced against the order, so the RFQ should state section, length, grade and standard together. Small sections in the 3 to 12 mm band behave like precision stock and are usually bought for instrument and fastener work; the 100 mm and up band is bought as machining blanks and priced per cut piece.
How much does square titanium bar weigh per metre?
Weight decides freight and often decides whether a section ships as bar or as cut blanks. Calculated at 4.51 g/cm3 for Grade 2, the same density used by the Beiyu titanium weight calculator; Grade 5 runs about 2 percent lighter at 4.43 g/cm3.
| Section (mm) | Grade 2 weight (kg/m) |
|---|---|
| 10 x 10 | 0.45 |
| 20 x 20 | 1.80 |
| 50 x 50 | 11.3 |
| 100 x 100 | 45.1 |
| 200 x 200 | 180 |
| 500 x 500 | 1128 |
A single 6000 mm length of 200 x 200 already weighs over a tonne, which is why heavy sections are normally ordered as cut blanks with the piece weight agreed on the order rather than as full-length bar.
When does square bar beat round bar?
| Starting stock | Makes sense when | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Square bar | The finished part is rectangular, keyed or flanged on flats | Less material removed, shorter machining time, less scrap to sell back at titanium prices |
| Round bar | The part is turned | Lathe work starts from round stock |
| Flat bar or plate | One dimension is thin | A 3 x 12.7 to 30 x 500 mm flat section wastes less than sawing a square down |
The material cost argument is stronger in titanium than in steel: every kilogram machined away was bought at titanium prices, so matching the starting section to the part shape pays for itself quickly. The comparison across all four bar sections sits in choosing a titanium bar section.
Which grade should go on the order?
| Grade | UNS | Pick it for |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 2 | R50400 | Chemical service parts, frames, general fabrication |
| Grade 5 | R56400 | High strength machined components |
Chemical limits for Grade 2 under ASTM B348: oxygen 0.25, iron 0.30, carbon 0.08, nitrogen 0.03 and hydrogen 0.015 percent maximum by weight, with minimum tensile strength 345 MPa in the annealed condition. Values on the certificate are produced by the methods the standard cites, such as E8 for tension testing and E1409 for oxygen and nitrogen.
What section tolerance does the standard permit?
Two routes, two tables, both inside ASTM B348. Selected rows in millimetres:
| Square size (mm) | Hot-worked, B348 Table 4 | Cold-finished, B348 Table 8 |
|---|---|---|
| 15.88 to 22.22 | +/-0.20 | 12.70 to 25.40: +0 / -0.10 |
| 22.22 to 25.40 | +/-0.23 | |
| 25.40 to 28.58 | +/-0.25 | 25.40 to 50.80: +0 / -0.16 |
| 38.10 to 50.80 | +/-0.40 | |
| 50.80 to 63.50 | +0.79 / -0 | 50.80 to 76.20: +0 / -0.20 |
| 63.50 to 88.90 | +1.19 / -0 | Over 76.20: +0 / -0.25 |
Table 4 also caps out-of-square, the difference between the two cross-section dimensions, at each size band, which is the number to check if your fixture clamps on opposite faces.
What does the standard itself say an order must contain?
ASTM B348 clause 4.1 lists the ordering information, and it maps one to one onto a clean RFQ. Nine items:
| # | Ordering item per ASTM B348 clause 4.1 |
|---|---|
| 1 | Grade number |
| 2 | Product classification, bar or billet |
| 3 | Chemistry per Table 1 |
| 4 | Mechanical properties per Table 2 |
| 5 | Marking |
| 6 | Surface finish |
| 7 | Packaging |
| 8 | Required reports |
| 9 | Disposition of rejected material |
Item 2 matters more for square bar than buyers expect: ASTM B348 classifies a solid section above 16 square inches, 10,323 square millimetres, as billet (clause 3.1.2). For a square that boundary sits at about 102 x 102 mm, so the upper half of the 3 to 500 mm square range is technically billet under the standard, quoted and certified the same way. For pressure vessel work the H grades exist under ASTM B348: identical chemistry to the numeric grade with a higher specified minimum tensile strength, Grade 2H at 400 MPa (58 ksi) minimum.
What should you check at receiving?

| Check | Against what |
|---|---|
| Marking on the bundle | Heat number must match a heat listed on the 3.1 certificate |
| Section at several points | The ordered dimension and the agreed tolerance, not just at one end |
| Cut ends | Square to the axis and free of tearing if blanks go straight to machining |
| Certificate type | The document must state EN 10204 type 3.1, not a 2.2 declaration |
What goes on the RFQ?
| Field | Example wording |
|---|---|
| Section and length | 50 x 50 mm, cut lengths 1000 mm |
| Grade and standard | Grade 5, ASTM B348 |
| Quantity | Pieces or kg |
| Certificate | EN 10204 3.1, heat traceable |
| Extras if the drawing needs them | Ultrasonic acceptance class, tighter section tolerance |
Specification detail with sources
The section range of 3 x 3 to 500 x 500 mm and the 6000 mm length limit are Beiyu’s published supply envelope. The standard-side numbers: ASTM B348 sets Grade 2 at oxygen 0.25, iron 0.30 percent maximum with tensile strength 345 MPa and yield 275 MPa minimum in the annealed condition under UNS R50400, and Grade 5 at 895 MPa tensile, 828 MPa yield minimum under UNS R56400; hot-worked square tolerance runs +/-0.20 mm at 15.88 to 22.22 mm per Table 4. Each order ships with an EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate listing heat and pour numbers so bundles can be traced line by line.
A scope note on the test methods: ASTM B348 cites E8 for tension testing and E1409 for oxygen and nitrogen; the citations settle how certificate numbers are produced and add no inspections beyond the order scope.
Frequently asked questions
Is square titanium bar a stock item? Sections are produced against the order; state the section and length on the RFQ and the reply will say what the production route is. No fixed availability is published.
Can square bar be ordered with an ultrasonic requirement? Yes, write the acceptance class and method standard into the order; the inspection scope is quoted with the material.
What tolerance applies to the section? The permissible variations of ASTM B348 apply, see the tolerance table above; machining near net size, put the cold-finished route and the exact row on the RFQ.
What surface does square bar arrive with? ASTM B348 clause 8.1 lists the surfaces annealed material may be furnished in: descaled, sandblasted, ground, or rough turned. State the one your process needs on the order.
Who supplies B348 material with 3.1 certificates? The certificate side is covered in who supplies ASTM B348 titanium bar with EN 10204 3.1 certificates.
