Titanium Materials for Chemical Industry

Titanium mill products and drawing-based components for chemical-process equipment RFQs, routed by process medium, operating conditions, equipment duty, material form, fabrication and inspection scope.

A chemical-project enquiry should not begin and end with “corrosion-resistant titanium.” The buyer’s engineer should define the medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, aeration or oxidizing condition, contaminants, chloride level where relevant, crevice/deposit risk, cleaning regime and expected duty. Beiyu then quotes the requested grade, product form, fabrication route and acceptance package; final material and design suitability remain subject to the buyer’s engineering specification.

Route the RFQ by equipment duty and material form

The same plant may need tube, plate, pipe, clad construction and coated anode components under different purchase specifications. Use the closest equipment route below, then add the process and drawing inputs that control quotation.

Equipment duty Likely material or component route RFQ inputs that change the route Starting page
Heat exchanger, condenser or evaporator Tube, tube sheet, plate, coil or a drawing-based exchanger/component package. Both media, concentration, temperatures, pressure, flow or thermal duty, tube OD/wall, tube-sheet construction, connections, drawing, test and document scope. Tube and pipe · Chemical equipment
Process piping and replacement spool components Seamless or welded pipe, fittings, flanges, valves and drawing-based connections. Medium, design temperature/pressure, pipe route, NPS/OD, schedule or wall, end connection, dimensional standard, grade, quantity and inspection requirement. Titanium pipe · Fittings and flanges
Vessel, liner, baffle or tube-sheet component Solid sheet/plate, machined tube sheet, clad plate or another drawing-defined construction. Construction type, base/cladding materials where applicable, thickness, dimensions, hole pattern, flatness, sealing surface, fabrication allowance, drawing and NDT requirement. Sheet and plate · Clad titanium
Electrochemical or water-treatment system Titanium substrate, coated anode/electrode, cathode plate or a complete drawing-based assembly. Electrolyte or working medium, substrate grade/form, coating specification, active area, current/loading data if defined, connection design, service target, drawing and inspection scope. Titanium anodes
Pump, valve, blower or rotating-equipment part Bar, forging, plate or machined/fabricated part to drawing. Medium and contaminants, temperature/pressure or gas duty, drawing, material callout, machining allowance, sealing/interface dimensions, balance or inspection notes and quantity. Pump and valve · Machined parts
Corrosion and design boundary. This route map organizes an RFQ; it is not a universal compatibility chart. The buyer’s engineer must confirm the grade, corrosion allowance, construction, design code and acceptance criteria for the stated service. Quotation does not create a corrosion-life guarantee.

Grade and product standard follow the engineering specification

Grade 2

Frequently requested for weldable, commercially pure titanium fabrication and heat-transfer material. Use only where the buyer’s specification confirms the service and required product-form standard.

Grade 7

A palladium-bearing commercially pure titanium grade that may be specified for more demanding corrosion conditions. The media, temperature, crevice condition and governing specification must be stated rather than inferred.

Grade 12

Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni may be specified for selected chemical, piping or heat-exchanger duties. It is not an automatic substitute for Grade 2 or Grade 7; use the grade required by the design.

Common product-form references include ASTM B265 for sheet and plate, ASTM B338 for tube, ASTM B861 or B862 for pipe, ASTM B363 for fittings, ASTM B381 for forgings and ASTM B348 for bar. The purchase specification controls the applicable edition, grade, condition, dimensions and acceptance tests.

Fabrication and inspection gate

Before fabrication

  • Drawing and revision
  • Material/product-form standard
  • Weld or forming route required by the buyer
  • Iron-contamination and cleanliness controls
  • Machining and assembly scope
  • Connection and sealing dimensions

Before quotation is closed

  • Dimensional inspection records
  • Pressure/leak test where ordered
  • Weld/NDT requirement where ordered
  • MTC, heat traceability and EN 10204 3.1 requirement
  • PMI or third-party inspection where ordered
  • Marking, packing and export documents

Inspection additions made after production planning can change the manufacturing route, cost and delivery window. Availability and the exact record/test scope must therefore be confirmed in the quotation and purchase order.

Three values that turn a corrosion question into a quotation

Chemical plant enquiries often name a medium and ask which grade to use. A medium on its own does not select a material, because the same fluid is handled by different metals at different strengths and different temperatures. Three values make the question answerable, and a fourth decides whether the answer can be built.

What the enquiry states Why it changes the answer
The medium, named rather than described Trade names and process shorthand do not map to a composition
Concentration The same acid at two concentrations can call for two different metals
Operating temperature, with excursions A material chosen at normal running temperature can be the wrong one at cleaning temperature
Whether the duty is oxidising or reducing It is the distinction that separates the corrosion alloyed titanium grades, the palladium, ruthenium and nickel molybdenum bearing ones, from the unalloyed grades
Product form and dimensions The same grade is a different purchase as plate, tube, bar or a formed part

Once those are on the page the order fields follow: grade with its UNS number, the governing specification, dimensions with tolerance, the delivery condition, the surface condition and the reporting scope. Surface condition, marking, packing, the reports required and the disposition of rejected material are all items an order is expected to carry in the bar and billet specification ASTM B348 (ASTM B348, ordering information), and they go unanswered on chemical enquiries as often as on any other kind.

Replacement and shutdown RFQs need receiving-risk inputs

For a replacement tube sheet, coil, piping component, anode assembly or rotating-equipment part, include the existing drawing or verified field dimensions, mating/interface details, position or tag number, required shutdown date, partial-shipment allowance and the buyer’s receiving inspection plan. A correct alloy with the wrong hole pattern, connection, allowance or document package can still delay maintenance.

Send the medium and concentration, temperature, pressure or duty, selected grade/standard, equipment route, dimensions or drawing, quantity, inspection/documents, shutdown window and packing requirements.
