Solid Titanium Block for Machining and Blank Stock

Beiyu supplies solid titanium block as machining stock, blank material and cut stock for parts that start from a thick solid piece rather than bar or plate. Solid titanium block is used for machined components, tooling, sputtering target blanks, spacers and large cross-section parts that are produced by cutting and machining from a block.

Solid block should be quoted by grade, block dimensions, condition and tolerance, because the machining allowance and material condition depend on the finished part.

Grade and Standards

Common gradesCommercially pure Grade 1 and Grade 2; alloy grades such as Grade 5 / Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 7 and Grade 12
Standard referenceASTM B348 for bar/billet stock, ASTM B381 for forged block, or customer specification
ConditionAnnealed, forged or rolled condition as specified
FormsSawn block, forged block, plate-cut block and drawing-based blank

Size, Tolerance and Machining Allowance

RFQs should specify grade, block length, width and thickness, tolerance, machining allowance and surface condition. For machined parts, buyers should provide the drawing and mark critical dimensions, so the correct block size and condition can be confirmed.

Common Applications

  • Machined titanium components from solid stock
  • Sputtering target blanks and tooling
  • Spacers, mounts and large cross-section parts
  • Cut blanks for further machining or forging

Inspection and Documentation

Buyers can request mill test certificate, EN10204 3.1 documentation, heat number traceability, chemical composition and mechanical properties. Ultrasonic testing or dimensional inspection can be agreed when defined in the purchase specification.

Packaging and Export Information

Solid titanium block is packed on pallets or in cases suitable for the weight and section, and marked by grade, heat number and dimensions where traceability is required.

RFQ Information Needed

  • Grade and standard requirement
  • Block length, width and thickness
  • Tolerance and machining allowance
  • Condition and surface requirement
  • Quantity, destination and packing
  • Certificate, testing and inspection requirements

FAQ

What is solid titanium block used for?

It is used as machining and blank stock for parts produced from a thick solid piece, including machined components, tooling, sputtering target blanks and large cross-section parts.

Which grades are available as block?

Commercially pure Grade 1 and 2, plus alloy grades such as Grade 5, Grade 7 and Grade 12, depending on the application.

What is needed to quote titanium block?

Send grade, block dimensions, tolerance, machining allowance, condition, quantity and certificate requirements; a drawing helps for machined parts.

Procurement Notes for Solid Titanium Block

Solid titanium block is normally purchased as machining stock, test material, mold-related stock or drawing-based blank material. RFQs should define grade, block dimensions, tolerance, surface condition, machining allowance, quantity and whether the block is cut from plate, billet, bar or forging stock. The route matters because it can affect grain direction, allowance, availability and inspection requirements.

For precision machining projects, include the final component drawing, critical dimensions, required flatness, corner condition and whether all six sides need machining. Documentation may include chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat number traceability, EN10204 3.1 certificate and PMI if required. Blocks should be packed to protect machined faces, edges and identification markings during export transit.

Include cut direction and required machining allowance for final quotation.

Machining Blank Review

Solid titanium blocks are usually purchased as machining blanks, so the RFQ should include finished drawing, rough size, machining allowance, tolerance and surface requirement. For Grade 5 or other alloy blocks, the buyer should also specify whether annealed condition, ultrasonic testing, PMI or EN 10204 3.1 documentation is required.

For heavy blocks, packaging should protect machined or saw-cut surfaces from impact and corrosion contamination during transport. Heat-number marking can be applied to the block or packing label when traceability is required for receiving inspection.

Specification detail with sources

The Beiyu Titanium supply ranges publish forged titanium block at 50 mm to 600 mm, alongside forged round bar at Ø50 mm to 500 mm with length to 3000 mm, forged ring at outside diameter 50 mm to 2000 mm with bore 10 mm to 900 mm and height 20 mm to 400 mm, and forged disc at outside diameter 50 mm to 2000 mm and thickness 20 mm to 500 mm. Those four rows are the forging route and are quoted against ASTM B381 and its ASME adoption SB381.

Block is the row buyers reach for when the part is not round, and it is worth naming as block rather than as large bar, because the two are separate rows with separate size limits above. A block enquiry that gives one overall dimension has not yet said whether it is being cut from the block row or the round bar row, and those two rows stop at different sizes.
