Product Introduction
Grade 12 Titanium Bar for Corrosion-Resistant Machining
Grade 12 titanium bar is a titanium alloy containing nickel and molybdenum, commonly described as Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni or UNS R53400. It is selected for industrial applications where the buyer's specification requires corrosion resistance and mechanical performance beyond standard commercially pure titanium.
Beiyu quotes Grade 12 titanium bar according to grade, standard, diameter or section size, tolerance, surface condition and document requirement. Bar may be supplied for machining, fabrication, fasteners, valve parts, pump components and chemical equipment hardware.
Grade and Standard
- Material: Grade 12 titanium / Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni / UNS R53400.
- Common standard: ASTM B348 for titanium and titanium alloy bar when specified.
- Forms: round bar, square bar, flat bar, cut bar or machined blanks.
- Surface: black, peeled, ground, polished or project-specified surface condition.
Size and Machining Requirements
RFQs should include diameter or section size, length, tolerance, straightness, surface condition, cut length requirement and quantity. If the bar will be machined into components, provide drawings with final dimensions, hole features, thread details, surface finish and inspection requirements.
Applications
Grade 12 titanium bar may be used for chemical processing parts, heat exchanger hardware, marine equipment components, valve and pump parts, fasteners, shafts and custom machined components. The buyer's corrosion engineer should confirm grade suitability for the working media.
Inspection and Documentation
Common document requests include mill test certificate, EN10204 3.1, heat number traceability, chemical composition, mechanical properties and dimensional inspection. Ultrasonic testing, PMI testing or third-party inspection should be requested before quotation when required.
Packing and RFQ Checklist
Grade 12 bars should be bundled or packed in wooden cases depending on size and surface finish. Labels should identify grade, standard, heat number and size. Send grade, standard, size, tolerance, length, quantity, surface condition, document requirement and destination country.

Procurement Notes for Grade 12 Bar
Grade 12 titanium bar is often used for machined parts in corrosive service, so the buyer should connect bar size to the finished component drawing. Include machining allowance, final OD or thread size, surface roughness and any NDT or PMI requirement. If the bar is for a replacement part, photos or original material notes can reduce uncertainty.
For project orders, confirm whether bars may be supplied in random lengths or must be cut to fixed lengths. Packing should protect machined or ground surfaces and keep heat numbers separated when traceability is required.
RFQ checklist: Grade 12 / UNS R53400, ASTM B348 if required, diameter or section size, fixed or random length, tolerance, surface condition, quantity, inspection documents and packing requirement.
RFQ Details for Grade 12 Bar

Specification detail with sources
Grade 12 titanium bar is set apart in ASTM B348 by a 483 MPa minimum tensile strength with 345 MPa minimum yield, roughly forty percent above the CP Grade 2 tensile floor while staying in the same machining family. That margin is why Grade 12 turns up in valve, pump and fastener work where a CP bar would need a larger section, with the corrosion question settled separately by the nickel and molybdenum additions.
Beiyu Titanium supplies Grade 12 bar in the flat sections machinists ask for: flat bar from 3 by 12.7 mm up to 30 by 500 mm alongside round bar, with ground or polished surface preparation on request. Beiyu also supplies Grade 12 bar as cut blanks when the enquiry carries the component drawing, holding cut length and end condition to the stated tolerance instead of a standard sawing allowance.
Specification for Grade 12 Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni bar
These are the fields an order line needs. Minimum values shown are those of ASTM B348 in the annealed condition. Where the order calls for another condition, the figures come from that row of the standard instead.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Grade | Grade 12 Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni |
| UNS designation | R53400 under ASTM B348 |
| Werkstoff number | 3.7105 |
| Controlling standard | ASTM B348 |
| Selected composition limits, mass percent | Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni (Mo 0.2 to 0.4, Ni 0.6 to 0.9). Full chemistry is per the governing specification. |
| Minimum tensile strength | 483 MPa (70 ksi) |
| Minimum yield strength | 345 MPa (50 ksi) |
| Minimum elongation | 18%, measured in 4D |
| Supply condition | R / M / Y, stated on the order |
Supply envelope
| Form | Range |
|---|---|
| Round bar | 1 mm to 500 mm diameter |
| Square bar | 3 x 3 mm to 500 x 500 mm |
| Flat bar | 3 x 12.7 mm to 30 x 500 mm |
| Hexagonal bar | up to 17 mm across flats |
| Length | up to 6000 mm |
The envelope above is the production capability. It does not mean every combination of grade, condition, surface, tolerance and inspection is available across the whole range, and it is not a stock statement. The ordered combination is confirmed at quotation.
Precision ground bar route
Where the drawing calls for a ground tolerance, bar runs on the precision centerless ground route. The figures below apply to that route, not to every bar in the envelope above.
| Parameter | Precision ground bar |
|---|---|
| Diameter range | 3.175 mm to 25.4 mm (0.125 in to 1.000 in) |
| Standard diameter tolerance | plus or minus 0.0127 mm (plus or minus 0.0005 in) |
| Tightened tolerance | plus or minus 0.0076 mm (plus or minus 0.0003 in), by agreement at enquiry |
| Straightness | 0.5 mm per metre as standard, 0.3 mm per metre on finer diameters, by agreement |
| Surface | Polished, 32 microinch RMS as specified |
| Grain size | ASTM E112 grain size 5.0 or finer, or 8.0 or finer, by order |
| ISO tolerance class | h6 to h9, or H6 to H9 on hole basis, stated on the order |
Inspection on the precision ground bar route
Five inspections run at 100 percent on that route, meaning every bar rather than a sample from the lot. Chemistry and tensile testing are sampled instead, because both destroy the specimen.
| Inspection at 100 percent |
|---|
| Ultrasonic flaw detection |
| Eddy current flaw detection |
| Surface optical inspection |
| Infrared laser diameter measurement |
| Straightness measurement |
| Ultrasonic parameter | Documented setting on that route |
|---|---|
| Method | Water immersion, focused longitudinal wave |
| Coverage | 100 percent of the circumference |
| Calibration reflector | 1.2 mm diameter radial flat bottom hole, set to 80 percent full screen height |
| Probe frequency | 10 MHz |
| Acceptance class | A1 |
| Acceptance specification | AMS-STD-2154 or GB/T 5193, whichever the order calls for |
Those six lines are worth writing onto a purchase order rather than accepting the words "ultrasonic tested", because a scan only becomes a meaningful pass or fail examination once the method, the coverage, the calibration reflector and the acceptance class are all fixed. The flat bottom hole is a calibration target, not a statement that every discontinuity of that size is detected.
