Acceptance is by the ordered specification. Values are RFQ references only. Final grade, chemistry, dimensions, inspection and documentation are confirmed by the purchase specification and mill test certificate.

Beiyu Titanium supplies molybdenum plate and sheet from 0.1 to 40 mm thick, up to 800 mm wide and up to 2,000 mm long, in four grades: Mo1, Mo2, MoLa and TZM. Supply is to ASTM B386, the molybdenum plate and sheet specification, as named on the purchase order, with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate supplied by order scope.

What sizes of molybdenum plate can be supplied?

The supply range covers thin sheet through heavy plate in one envelope. Any thickness, width and length inside these limits can be quoted; a size outside them is confirmed at quotation rather than assumed.

DimensionSupply range
Thickness0.1 to 40 mm
Width10 to 800 mm
Length10 to 2,000 mm

Width and length are cut from the sheet or plate stock, so a drawing that gives the finished blank size lets the cut plan be checked against the envelope before the order is placed.

Which molybdenum grade does the plate come in?

GradeHow the grade is listed
Mo1Unalloyed molybdenum designation as listed in the Beiyu supply ranges; chemistry per the mill test certificate
Mo2Unalloyed molybdenum designation as listed in the Beiyu supply ranges; chemistry per the mill test certificate
MoLaLanthanum-bearing molybdenum grade as listed in the supply ranges; composition confirmed on the order and certificate
TZMMolybdenum alloyed with titanium and zirconium, as listed in the supply ranges

Pure molybdenum or TZM for a plate application?

The choice turns on temperature and load rather than on the plate itself.

If the plateLean towardsBecause
Carries load while hotTZMTZM holds its strength and resists recrystallisation to a higher temperature than pure molybdenum, and has the better creep strength of the two
Is formed, bent or deep drawn after deliveryPure molybdenum (Mo1, Mo2)Pure molybdenum is the more ductile material

State the service temperature and whether the part is formed after delivery. Those two facts decide the grade faster than any list of properties.

Why is condition a separate line on the order?

Molybdenum plate is supplied either stress relieved or recrystallised, and the two are not interchangeable at the same grade. Worked and stress-relieved material and fully recrystallised material behave differently at the same purity, which is why the condition is a separate line on the order. A drawing that names the grade but not the condition leaves a decision that changes behaviour in service unmade.

How much does a molybdenum plate weigh?

Weight follows directly from volume. The figures below are for a 100 mm by 1,000 mm piece, calculated from the reference density of 10.22 g/cm³ that Beiyu uses for molybdenum weight estimates. Actual weight shifts slightly with grade and with the thickness tolerance.

ThicknessVolumeEstimated weight
1 mm100 cm³1.02 kg
5 mm500 cm³5.11 kg
10 mm1,000 cm³10.22 kg
20 mm2,000 cm³20.44 kg
40 mm4,000 cm³40.88 kg

For other sizes, the weight calculator takes any thickness, width and length.

What should a molybdenum plate enquiry include?

An enquiry that carries these lines can be reviewed against the supply range in one pass:

LineWhat to state
GradeMo1, Mo2, MoLa or TZM
ThicknessNominal thickness, with the tolerance the drawing needs
Width and lengthPlate size, or the finished blank size
ConditionStress relieved or recrystallised
Surface conditionAs the drawing requires
QuantityPieces or total weight
Standard and certificateASTM B386, and the certificate level

What documentation comes with the plate?

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate is supplied by order scope and traces the plate to its heat, with the reporting scope set by the purchase order. The grade, dimensions and condition are confirmed against the purchase specification and the certificate by order scope.

Specification detail with sources

Beiyu Titanium lists molybdenum plate at 0.1 to 40 mm thickness, 10 to 800 mm width and 10 to 2,000 mm length in its published supply ranges, in grades Mo1, Mo2, MoLa and TZM. The Beiyu supply ranges print ASTM B386 and B387 together for the molybdenum family; ASTM itself assigns flat products to B386 and bar, rod and wire to B387, so a plate order names B386.

The weights on this page are calculated from 10.22 g/cm³, the molybdenum density Beiyu uses for weight estimates and in its quotations, and 2,610 °C is the molybdenum melting point Beiyu uses as a reference value. These are reference values for estimating, not guaranteed properties of a particular heat; the properties that apply to delivered plate are the ones reported on its mill test certificate.
