Grade 2 seamless titanium tube is frequently confused with welded heat-exchanger tube and with seamless pipe. The difference is not editorial: ASTM B338 tube and ASTM B861 pipe use different product definitions, dimensions and acceptance logic. A buyer therefore has to lock R50400 heat identity, seamless manufacture, governing standard, finished OD and wall, length, tube tests, cleanliness and end preparation before five supplier pages become comparable.
How this five-company source set was built
We froze the query Grade 2 titanium seamless tube supplier ASTM B338 on 1 September 2026. Eligible company-owned sources had to connect Grade 2/R50400 with seamless tube or an unambiguous seamless tube row and expose a standard, dimension, manufacturing route, test or traceability field. Beiyu, excluded-geography companies, marketplaces, directories, rankings and pages limited to welded tube were removed. A page that also mentions pipe remains usable only as a prompt to separate routes in the RFQ; it does not allow pipe evidence to stand in for B338 tube.
| Company | Page type | What the page exposes | What the buyer must verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alleima | Company Grade 2 datasheet | Seamless tube/pipe range, B338 material context and size chart | Return the orderable tube line, manufacturing route, condition, exact size and release tests |
| TSM Technology | Grade 2 tube page | Seamless cold-pilgered and welded routes, B338 and inspection fields | State seamless only and bind OD/wall, condition, test coverage and certificate scope |
| RIC Tubes | Seamless tube page | Grade 2/R50400, B338/B861 distinction, dimensions and inspection prompts | Choose tube or pipe, then return finished geometry, lot plan, NDE and actual reports |
| Titanium Industries | Seamless tube stock page | Grade 2 seamless tube, B338/SB-338, UNS identity and size context | Verify exact stock line, parent mill, heat, cut length, condition and original documents |
| Chalco Titanium | Grade 2 tube/pipe page | B338, B861 and B862 routes plus dimensions and processing options | Reject a mixed-standard offer and require one product definition with matching tests |

Freeze tube, seamless route and OD/wall convention
Write “seamless” on both the RFQ and the supplier’s return. A generic Grade 2 tube page may offer welded and seamless products side by side; that does not establish the route for the quoted line. Avoid pipe schedules when the design is controlled by tube OD and wall. Conversely, do not force B338 language onto a piping item that is actually designed and accepted as B861 pipe. Define whether wall is nominal or minimum, how ovality is calculated, where wall is measured and what length tolerance applies after cutting. Test names also need coverage and acceptance criteria; a menu of optional NDE is not evidence that it is included.
| Decision field | Buyer input | Required supplier return |
|---|---|---|
| Product route | ASTM B338/SB-338 seamless tube or ASTM B861 seamless pipe | One standard/revision and one product definition per line |
| Identity | Grade 2 / UNS R50400 heat chemistry and original source | Actual heat values and tube-to-heat traceability |
| Geometry | Finished OD × wall × length, tolerances, ovality, straightness and ends | Measurement method, tolerance table, finished results and cut plan |
| Manufacture | Hollow billet plus cold reduction/drawing, final anneal, straightening and surface | Route sequence, condition, repair rule and processor identities |
| Acceptance | Tensile, flattening/flaring, hydro/pneumatic, UT/ET, dimensions, surface and cleanliness | Applicable tests, calibration, coverage, lot, criteria and reports |
Where quotations diverge in practice
For a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, provide tubesheet hole size, tube-to-tubesheet joint, expansion or welding method, projection, cleaning route and required straight length. Thin-wall tubing can meet chemistry yet fail assembly because of ovality, end damage, burrs or inconsistent wall near the joint zone. State whether eddy-current testing, hydrostatic testing or another examination is required and at what stage. Bundle count, end caps, separators and moisture control matter because clean bores can be lost during packing. The equipment designer retains responsibility for corrosion, vibration, thermal expansion and joint qualification.

Inspection and traceability traps
Do not accept a certificate package that identifies only Grade 2 and a nominal diameter. Reconcile the original heat, tube lot, manufacturing route, final anneal, actual mechanical results, dimensional report and ordered tube tests. If a supplier cuts from stock, require the cut bundle to remain tied to the parent lot. Published properties often mix B338 and B861 or do not identify wall thickness; keep those values out of the acceptance sheet unless they match the ordered edition and size band. Any claim of suitability for seawater or chemical duty still needs the buyer’s service conditions and design review.
Send one controlled RFQ return schedule
Send the same return schedule to every candidate and require line-by-line answers. Blank cells, unpriced options and exceptions should remain visible so that an attractive total cannot conceal a different material route or document package.
| RFQ group | Buyer states | Supplier returns |
|---|---|---|
| Duty/spec | Service, Grade 2/R50400, B338/SB-338 revision and seamless route | Exact offered standard, source, route, deviations and service boundary |
| Tube | Finished OD × wall × length, tolerance, ovality, straightness and ends | Capability, measurement method, stock/production size and cut plan |
| Manufacture | Billet, cold reduction/drawing, anneal, straightening, surface and repair rule | Complete route, processor identities and final condition |
| Tests | Chemistry, tensile, flattening/flaring, pressure, UT/ET, dimensions and surface | ITP, methods, calibration, coverage, acceptance, lot and reports |
| Cleanliness/trace | Bore condition, caps, marking, MTC and bundle map | Release index linked to heat, tube lot, bundle and each cut length |
| Commercial | Trial/production quantity, packing, destination and required date | Current stock/production state, MOQ, schedule, validity and exclusions |
How Beiyu handles the same enquiry
Beiyu is outside the five-company comparison. Its Grade 2 seamless tube route asks for B338/SB-338 or the explicitly chosen pipe standard, R50400 heat identity, seamless manufacturing route, finished OD/wall/length and dimensional convention, final condition and surface, tube-specific testing, bore cleanliness, end preparation, original traceability, quantity, capped packing and destination. Welded availability is not treated as evidence of a seamless offer.
Use the Grade 2 titanium seamless tube, general titanium tube suppliers comparison, ASTM B338 tube and pipe guide, seamless versus welded titanium tube to check the product route, the broader supplier landscape and the relevant specification/RFQ controls. Send one controlled RFQ with drawings, quantity, inspection scope, required date and destination; compare returned exceptions before comparing totals.

Specification detail with sources
Beiyu Titanium publishes this list and is not part of the comparison above. For readers who want the publisher’s own figures on the same basis they would ask of any supplier on this page, the material is specified to ASTM B338, and each order carries an EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate with heat and pour numbers by order scope.
Beiyu supplies seamless tube OD 5 to 325 mm with 0.5 to 12 mm wall in lengths to 12000 mm, welded tube OD 6.35 to 1219 mm with 0.5 to 25.4 mm wall in lengths to 22000 mm, and capillary OD 1 to 5 mm with 0.1 to 2 mm wall.
These are Beiyu published supply figures and inspection parameters, not limits taken from the standard; limit values belong to ASTM B338 and are confirmed against the exact edition named on the purchase order. Certification is stated as a production capability, and no stock position, delivery time or price is implied by any figure on this page.
