Grade 7 Titanium Pipe (Ti-0.15Pd)

Beiyu supplies Grade 7 titanium pipe in Ti-0.15Pd, the palladium-bearing titanium grade with the best corrosion resistance of the common titanium grades in reducing acids and aggressive chloride environments. Grade 7 pipe is selected for chemical processing, acid handling and electrochemical equipment where Grade 2 would not survive the service conditions.

Grade 7 pipe should be quoted by NPS or OD, wall thickness or schedule, length, condition and standard, because corrosion behaviour and pressure rating depend on the medium and dimensions.

Grade and Standards

MaterialGrade 7 titanium / Ti-0.15Pd / UNS R52400
Standard referenceASTM B861 (seamless) or B862 (welded), which replaced the withdrawn ASTM B337, ASME SB861 / SB862, or customer specification

Pipe typeSeamless or welded titanium pipe

Size, Schedule and Condition

RFQs should specify NPS or OD, wall thickness or schedule, length, tolerance, end preparation and surface condition. For acid or chloride service, the buyer should state the medium, concentration and temperature so the grade selection and testing can be confirmed.

Common Applications

  • Reducing acid and aggressive chloride piping
  • Chemical and electrochemical processing equipment
  • Hydrometallurgy and acid recovery systems
  • Corrosion-critical piping where Grade 2 is unsuitable

Inspection and Documentation

Buyers can request mill test certificate, EN10204 3.1 documentation, heat number traceability, chemical composition and mechanical properties. Hydrostatic testing, eddy current testing, radiography of welds or dimensional inspection can be agreed when defined in the purchase specification.

Packaging and Export Information

Titanium pipe is protected against bending, end damage and surface scratches, with end caps and rigid packing. Labels show grade, size, heat number and quantity where traceability is required.

RFQ Information Needed

  • Grade and standard: Grade 7 / Ti-0.15Pd, ASTM B861 or B862
  • NPS or OD, wall thickness or schedule, length
  • End preparation and surface condition
  • Medium, concentration and temperature
  • Quantity, destination and packing
  • Certificate and inspection requirements

FAQ

Why is Grade 7 titanium used for piping?

Grade 7 contains a small palladium addition that gives the best corrosion resistance among common titanium grades in reducing acids and aggressive chloride media.

Is Grade 7 pipe seamless or welded?

Both seamless and welded titanium pipe are available; the type and ASTM standard should be confirmed in the RFQ.

What is needed to quote Grade 7 titanium pipe?

Send NPS or OD, wall or schedule, length, medium, condition, quantity and certificate or test requirements.

Procurement Notes for Grade 7 Titanium Pipe

Grade 7 titanium pipe is often requested for more aggressive corrosion environments than Grade 2. RFQs should state whether the required material is seamless pipe, welded pipe or tube, and whether ASTM B861, ASTM B862, ASTM B338 or a project specification applies. Important purchasing data includes OD, wall thickness, length, quantity, end condition, surface finish and permitted dimensional tolerance.

Because Grade 7 contains palladium, heat traceability and material verification are especially important. Buyers should define whether PMI, hydrostatic testing, ultrasonic testing, weld inspection, EN10204 3.1 certificates or third-party inspection are required. If the pipe will be connected to flanges, fittings or heat-exchanger equipment, include the mating component dimensions and service medium in the RFQ.

Include required pipe schedule, allowable ovality, end preparation and any corrosion-service notes when requesting final quotation.

Specification detail with sources

ASTM B861 and ASTM B862 both list Grade 7 (UNS R52400), which is Grade 2 chemistry with 0.12 to 0.25 percent palladium added. Its mechanical minima stay at the Grade 2 level of 345 MPa tensile and 275 MPa yield, so acceptance for service in reducing media such as dilute hydrochloric or sulphuric acid does not turn on the strength page of the certificate at all: it turns on the palladium line, the single addition that changes corrosion behaviour.

Beiyu Titanium quotes Grade 7 pipe in both routes, seamless to 325 mm outside diameter and welded to 1219 mm, against ASTM B861, ASTM B862 and the corresponding ASME SB861 and SB862. Because the palladium addition is invisible to any dimensional check, Beiyu pairs the size enquiry with the verification scope, an EN 10204 3.1 certificate with heat number and PMI where the order requires it, and asks for the acid, its concentration and the temperature before confirming that Grade 7 is the right grade for the line.

Specification for Grade 7 Ti-0.15Pd pipe

These are the fields an order line needs. The mechanical requirement that applies is the one in ASTM B861 or ASTM B862 for the ordered form, size range and condition, so it is confirmed against the ordered standard at quotation rather than carried across from another product standard.

Dimensions

State outside diameter, wall thickness and length, and say whether the pipe is ordered seamless or welded, because that is what fixes the governing standard and with it the acceptance requirements.

Inspection and documentation

The inspection scope is set by the order rather than assumed. State which examinations are required, to which acceptance standard and class, and at which stage they are performed, because those four fields are what make an inspection line objectively verifiable during receiving inspection.
