Hydraulic Titanium Pipe for Corrosion-Resistant Fluid Lines

Hydraulic titanium pipe is selected when a fluid line needs low density, corrosion resistance and stable performance in seawater, chloride-containing media or chemical processing environments. For procurement, the important question is not only the pipe name, but the exact grade, outside diameter, wall thickness, pressure design, bending requirement and documentation package.

Beiyu supplies titanium pipe and tube for hydraulic and instrumentation systems according to drawings, size lists and project specifications. Typical enquiries include straight seamless tube, cut-to-length pipe sections, cleaned tube for assembly, and titanium pipe used with fittings, flanges, valves or manifolds.

Available Grades and Standards

GradeTypical UseCommon Standard
Grade 2 / UNS R50400General corrosion-resistant hydraulic and fluid linesASTM B338 / ASTM B861, project specification
Grade 7 / UNS R52400More severe reducing or chloride serviceASTM B338 / ASTM B861, ASTM B862 when welded pipe is specified
Grade 9 / Ti-3Al-2.5VHigher strength tubing and lightweight structuresASTM B338 or drawing-based requirement

Size, Condition and Surface

RFQs normally define outside diameter, wall thickness, length, tolerance, straightness, supply condition and surface finish. Seamless tube is often requested for pressure-related service, while welded pipe may be acceptable for lower-pressure transfer lines if the project specification permits it. Surface options may include pickled, polished or cleaned condition depending on assembly and inspection needs.

Applications

  • Offshore hydraulic lines exposed to seawater atmosphere
  • Chemical dosing, brine handling and chlorination equipment
  • Titanium fluid lines connected to pumps, valves, flanges and manifolds
  • Heat exchanger auxiliary lines and instrument connections
  • Lightweight industrial systems where stainless steel corrosion is a concern

Inspection and Documentation

Inspection can be arranged according to order requirements, including dimensional checks, visual inspection, PMI where required, and review of chemical composition and mechanical properties on the mill test certificate. For pressure-related projects, buyers should state whether EN10204 3.1 documentation, hydrostatic testing, ultrasonic testing or special cleaning is required.

Packaging and Export Notes

Straight titanium pipe should be packed to avoid bending, denting and end damage. End caps, bundle protection, wooden cases or pallet packing can be selected by length, quantity and destination. Labels should identify grade, size, heat number and PO line item when traceability is required.

RFQ Information Needed

  • Grade, standard and whether seamless or welded pipe is required
  • OD, wall thickness, length and quantity per size
  • Pressure design, bending or assembly requirement if applicable
  • Surface finish, cleaning, end condition and packing requirement
  • MTC, EN10204 3.1, PMI, UT or hydrostatic test requirement

FAQ

Is titanium pipe suitable for hydraulic systems?
It can be suitable when the project design allows titanium and when grade, wall thickness, pressure rating and connection method are correctly specified.

Which titanium grade is most common for hydraulic pipe?
Grade 2 is common for corrosion-resistant service. Grade 7 or Grade 9 may be selected when the environment or strength requirement justifies it.

Can hydraulic titanium pipe be supplied cut to length?
Yes, cut length, end protection, cleaning and packing can be defined in the RFQ.

Quotation Checklist for Hydraulic Titanium Pipe

To avoid mismatched quotations, hydraulic titanium pipe RFQs should include the connected equipment, operating medium, design pressure if available, bending or flaring requirement, end preparation, and whether the pipe will be used with titanium fittings, valves or flanges. For replacement projects, provide photos or drawings of the existing line, because nominal pipe descriptions can differ from actual outside diameter and wall thickness.

Specification detail with sources

ASTM B861 seamless pipe is the usual paper for titanium hydraulic and pressure lines, and its Grade 2 yield strength is bounded on both sides, 275 MPa minimum and 450 MPa maximum, so a pressure design is not thrown off by an unexpectedly hard heat. Hydrostatic proof pressure in the titanium tube standards follows the fiber stress relation P = 2St/D, which means the wall thickness and outside diameter written on the order directly set the pressure the mill tests against, before any system-level qualification.

Beiyu Titanium supplies seamless hydraulic tube with walls from 0.5 to 12 mm and can write hydrostatic or eddy current testing into the order under its inspection flow, with third party inspection arranged by agreement. A hydraulic enquiry should carry the design pressure, the medium, any bend or flare allowance and the cleanliness requirement, because Beiyu sizes the wall and the test scope from those four inputs rather than from the pipe name on the drawing title block.
