Acceptance is by the ordered specification. Values are RFQ references only. Final grade, chemistry, dimensions, inspection and documentation are confirmed by the purchase specification and mill test certificate.
Supply envelope: tantalum plate and sheet run 0.03 mm to 10 mm thick, in widths of 30 mm to 1000 mm and lengths of 30 mm to 2000 mm, annealed with a bright surface.

Tantalum is often specified for hot HCl, H₂SO₄ HNO₃ and many organic media, but concentration, temperature and contamination must be reviewed before quotation; it is attacked only by hydrofluoric acid, oleum/free SO₃ and hot concentrated alkalis. Avoid hydrogen-charging service above ~300 °C.

Why tantalum for capacitors?
Tantalum forms a very stable, thin oxide dielectric, giving high capacitance in a small volume, the basis of tantalum capacitors.
Can you supply thin tantalum foil?
Yes. Tantalum is supplied down to 0.03 mm thick; specify thickness, width and temper.

Tantalum plate, sheet and foil is supplied annealed with a mill test certificate and EN 10204 3.1 documentation on request, heat-number marked, and packed flat with edge protection for export.

Where sheet stops being sheet
Tantalum flat product is ordered by thickness, and thickness is also what decides which product it is. Sheet and plate are separated by a thickness boundary set in the governing specification rather than by how a supplier describes them, which means an enquiry sitting near that boundary can be quoted as either unless it names the specification. Buyers who write only a thickness and a width sometimes receive a quotation against a different document than the one they will inspect to.
The alloy question comes first regardless of thickness. Unalloyed tantalum and the tungsten bearing grades are both supplied flat, and they are bought for different service rather than as substitutes. After that, the condition and the surface state are separate fields, and on thin material the flatness expectation is worth stating because it is not implied by a thickness tolerance. The fields to send are the grade with its designation, the governing specification, thickness with tolerance, the sheet size, the delivery condition, the surface state and the inspection scope. How much does tantalum plate or sheet weigh?
Tantalum is heavy for its size, and on a small order the weight is usually the first figure a freight enquiry needs. The figures below are for a 100 mm by 1000 mm piece, calculated from 16.69 g/cm³, the tantalum density given on this page. They are estimates for planning, not the shipped weight of a particular piece, which follows the actual thickness within tolerance.

Specification detail with sources
The Beiyu Titanium supply ranges publish tantalum sheet and plate at 0.03 mm to 10 mm thick, in widths of 30 mm to 1000 mm and lengths of 30 mm to 2000 mm. The thickness and width figures match the niobium rows in the same Beiyu Titanium supply ranges, but the length does not: tantalum starts at 30 mm where niobium starts at 50 mm, a difference that only shows up when small pieces are being cut to size.
Three standards are named for tantalum, ASTM B365, B521 and B708, in a single entry that covers sheet, plate, bar, wire and pipe together. None of them is tied to a form there, so none is tied to one here. The grades carried are the UNS designations R05200, R05252 at Ta-2.5W and R05255 at Ta-10W.
