Product Introduction
Grade 7 Titanium Sheet for Severe Corrosion Service
Grade 7 titanium sheet is a palladium-bearing commercially pure titanium material used when standard Grade 2 titanium may not provide enough corrosion resistance in reducing acids or severe chloride-containing environments. It is often selected for chemical processing equipment, seawater service, brine systems, chlorination equipment and corrosion-resistant fabricated parts.
For procurement, Grade 7 sheet should be specified by ASTM B265, UNS R52400, thickness, width, length, surface finish and certificate requirement. The design medium, temperature and fabrication method should also be considered before confirming material.
Grade and Standards
| Material | UNS | Common Standard | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade 7 titanium | UNS R52400 | ASTM B265 | Titanium with palladium addition for improved corrosion resistance |
| Grade 2 titanium | UNS R50400 | ASTM B265 | General commercially pure titanium, used when service conditions permit |
| Grade 12 titanium | UNS R53400 | ASTM B265 | Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni alloy for selected chemical and heat-exchanger applications |
Size and Surface Condition
Grade 7 sheet can be quoted by thickness, width, length and quantity. Surface condition may be pickled, blasted, polished or as specified by the drawing. Buyers should state whether tight flatness, edge trimming, protective film, cut pieces or additional machining allowance is required. For welded fabrications, weld procedure and filler metal requirements should be reviewed separately.
Common Applications
- Chemical tanks, liners, covers and fabricated sheet components
- Chloride and brine handling equipment
- Seawater and desalination-related components
- Titanium anode assemblies and electrochemical equipment
- Heat exchanger plates, baffles and corrosion-resistant internals
Inspection and Documentation
Mill test certificates should show chemical composition, mechanical properties and heat number traceability. For project orders, buyers may request EN10204 3.1 documentation, PMI testing, dimensional inspection, surface inspection and packing photos. If the sheet will be used in pressure equipment, the purchasing specification should match the design code and fabrication procedure.
Packaging and Export
Titanium sheet should be protected from surface scratches, edge damage and moisture during transport. Packing may include protective film, interleaving, pallet packing or wooden case packing depending on thickness and destination. Each package should identify grade, standard, size, heat number and quantity.
Grade 7 Sheet Specification Snapshot
| Alloy / grade | Grade 7, Ti-0.15Pd (UNS R52400), with Pd 0.12-0.25%. |
|---|---|
| Specification | ASTM B265 / ASME SB-265 for sheet and plate. |
| Size route | Sheet thickness and plate thickness are quoted separately; send thickness, width, length, flatness and surface for review. |
| Surface | Bright, pickled or polished surface by order requirement. |
| Service | Reducing acids and crevice-prone chloride duty where Grade 2 needs a Pd-alloyed upgrade. |
| Certificate | EN 10204 3.1 MTC with Pd reported; PMI verification can be added by order scope. |
State the acid, concentration and temperature so grade fit is reviewed before quoting. Palladium is reported on the certificate, and PMI at receiving is the practical check for a grade that looks like Grade 2.

FAQ
Why use Grade 7 instead of Grade 2?
Grade 7 contains palladium and is selected for more severe corrosion conditions where Grade 2 may not be enough.
What standard is normally used for Grade 7 sheet?
ASTM B265 is commonly specified for titanium sheet and plate.
Can Grade 7 sheet be cut to drawing size?
Yes, but the RFQ should include size, tolerance, edge condition and whether machining allowance is needed.
Quotation Checklist for Grade 7 Titanium Sheet
For Grade 7 titanium sheet, the RFQ should mention the service medium, fabrication method, welding requirement, minimum sheet size, nesting plan if cut pieces are required, and whether protective film is needed on one or both sides. Chemical equipment buyers should also state whether the material will be used as a liner, baffle, plate, cover, tank component or machined part.
Include required delivery tolerance, inspection language and certificate copies when requesting final pricing.

Specification detail with sources
ASTM B265-25 gives Grade 7 and Grade 2 annealed flat product the same minimum room-temperature tensile strength, yield strength and elongation: 345 MPa, 275 MPa and 20 percent. Grade 7 adds palladium for corrosion resistance; that shared property floor does not by itself authorize a Grade 2 design to be substituted, so the medium, temperature, fabrication route, code and controlling design basis still need review.
Beiyu Titanium quotes Grade 7 sheet through its sheet and plate program, with hot-rolled or cold-rolled routes and surface preparation defined on the order. For pressure-equipment work, name ASME SB-265 in the enquiry when the governing code requires that route; the ordered standard must remain explicit rather than treating an ASTM B265 certificate as an automatic substitute.
Specification for Grade 7 Ti-0.15Pd sheet and plate
These are the fields an order line needs. Minimum values shown are those of ASTM B265 in the annealed condition. Where the order calls for another condition, the figures come from that row of the standard instead.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Grade | Grade 7 Ti-0.15Pd |
| UNS designation | R52400 under ASTM B265 |
| Werkstoff number | 3.7235 |
| Controlling standard | ASTM B265 |
| Selected composition limits, mass percent | Grade 2 chemistry plus Pd 0.12 to 0.25. Full chemistry is per the governing specification. |
| Minimum tensile strength | 345 MPa (50 ksi) |
| Minimum yield strength | 275 MPa (40 ksi) |
| Minimum elongation | 20%, measured in 2 in or 50 mm |
| Supply condition | R / M / Y, stated on the order |
Supply envelope
| Form | Range |
|---|---|
| Thin plate and sheet | 0.5 mm to 3 mm thick, width to 1500 mm |
| Plate | 3 mm to 70 mm thick, width to 2500 mm, length to 6000 mm |
The envelope above is the production capability. It does not mean every combination of grade, condition, surface, tolerance and inspection is available across the whole range, and it is not a stock statement. The ordered combination is confirmed at quotation.
Inspection and documentation
The inspection scope is set by the order rather than assumed. State which examinations are required, to which acceptance standard and class, and at which stage they are performed, because those four fields are what make an inspection line objectively verifiable during receiving inspection.
